Treatment How do we perform ingrown toenail surgery?

After administering local anaesthetic your podiatrist will gently lift the edge of the nail freeing it from the surrounding tissue.

Using specialty clippers, we trim the offending edge of the nail.

The offending nail edge and nail matrix will be removed.

After the nail is removed, the nail matrix is chemically cauterised to kill the cells of the nail matrix. This will prevent the nail from regrowing.

What to expect

1

Your podiatrist will assess your toe and identify any contributing factors to your ingrown toenail.

2

Your podiatrist will the determine whether your ingrown toenail can be fixed non-surgically or whether surgery will be required.

3

The recommended procedure will be performed by your podiatrist. A non-surgical appointment will last for 30 minutes and a surgical consult will last for 60 minutes.
